Welcome Parents and Parents-to-be to the Baptism Program at Holy Trinity Catholic Church!  We look forward to meeting you as you begin the first stage of your child’s initiation into the Catholic Christian Community.  First Eucharist, Reconciliation, and Confirmation complete our initiation.  These guidelines and information are designed to help the process go as smoothly as possible.  Classes are offered to parishioners several times a year: January through November.  Dates are announced in the parish bulletin and on the website.
 
 If you are not formally registered at Holy Trinity please fill out a registration form and participate in weekend Masses and practice stewardship of time, talent and treasure.
 
A new Parishioner who does not live within our boundaries must be registered for 3 months before a sacrament is allowed or provide a letter of permission from their parish.
 
Parents are expected to attend one class facilitated by the parish Baptismal Team.
When attending the class please be prepared to complete the Baptism Registration Form (you may print a copy of the Baptism Registration Form by clicking on this link, Baptism Registration Form) that includes the godparent’s name(s).
 
State Birth Certificate - Your child’s baptism certificate is a legal document.  It is necessary that the birth certificate be issued by the state where your child was born.  San Antonio birth certificates are issued at the San Antonio Metropolitan Health District Office during the week.  Certificates issued by the Hospital are mementos and cannot be used.
 
Baptismal name - The child should have a baptismal name, i.e., the name of a saint who will mentor the child’s Christian life.  This can be the child’s name, or a saint you have a special devotion to, or a saint you would like your child to mentor.  You can go to www.catholic.org.; It lists the saints in alphabetical order.  You can read the history of the saint, who they are the patron saint of, their feast day, etc.

Godparents are required to attend the Baptism class, and possess a letter from their parish stating that they are practicing Catholics and have permission to be a godparent. One catholic godparent is required and may either be male or female: at least 16 years old and be a fully initiated practicing Catholic; i.e.; has received the following sacraments Baptism, First Eucharist, Confirmed and if Married, was married in the Catholic Church or had their marriage blessed at a later date.  Per Canon Law 873
             If you choose 2 godparents one must be male and one female.
 Ideally they will both be Catholic however one may be non-Catholic they must be baptized in a Christian faith, in the Trinitarian formula (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit with water).  Proof of Baptism is required (a copy of their Baptismal certificate).  They will be listed as a Christian Witness and not as a godparent on the Baptismal form.
            A parent cannot be the godparent of a child to be baptized.
If godparents cannot be present for the ceremony, please consider your option of a proxy. 
            Godparents need to attend the baptism class or show record that they have attended a baptism class in order to be godparents.

The Baptism will be scheduled once you have completed the baptism preparation, baptism record form, birth certificate, and the godparents’ letter/ baptismal certificate have been received. 
 
All paperwork must be received in the office, No Exceptions,
 
Baptisms are scheduled through the office only by the Sacramental Coordinator: Veronica Santillan 497-4200 ext.305
The majority of the Baptisms scheduled are private and performed by the Deacons of the Parish. 
Baptism are performed on Saturdays, but weddings and special events have priority.

Pautas para Bautizos
 Bienvenidos Padres y Futuros Padres al Programa de Bautizos de la Iglesia Holy Trinity.  Estamos ansiosos de conocerlos mientras empiezan la primera etapa de la iniciación a la Comunidad Católica Cristiana. La Primera Eucaristía, Reconciliación y Confirmación completan nuestra iniciación.  Estas pautas e información tienen el fin de ayudar que el proceso avance de la mejor manera posible. Se ofrecen clases varias veces al año a los parroquianos: Enero, Febrero, Marzo, Abril, Junio, Julio, Septiembre, Octubre y Noviembre.  Las fechas son anunciadas en el boletín de la parroquia así como en el sitio de internet.
 
Si usted no se encuentra  formalmente registrado en la Iglesia de Holy Trinity Catholic Church, por favor llene la forma de registro, participe en las Misas de fin de semana y practique una gestión responsable de su tiempo, talento y tesoro.
 
Un nuevo feligrés que no vive dentro de los límites de nuestra iglesia, tendrá que estar registrado por 3 meses antes que se le permita el sacramento.
 
 
Se espera que los Papas atiendan una clase facilitada por el Comité  Bautismal de la parroquia.  Cuando asistan a la clase favor de traer el Certificado de nacimiento original, el que da el Estado, no el del hospital.
Vengan preparados a completar la Forma de Registro para Bautizo, (ustedes pueden ver las formas en nuestra página de internet, y pueden bajarlas y traerlas ya completas, están bajo Baptism Registration Form).
Y eso incluye los nombres de los padrinos y el nombre del santo para él bebe.
 
Certificado de Nacimiento Original del Estado.
El Certificado de Bautismo es un documento legal.  Y por eso es necesario que el Certificado de Nacimiento sea expedido por el Estado donde él bebe nació. Certificados expedidos por los hospitales son recuerdo y no se pueden utilizar.
 

Nombre Bautismal.
Él bebe tendrá que tener nombre bautismal; por ejemplo  el nombre de un santo que será su mentor en la vida Cristiana del bebe. Este podrá ser el nombre del bebe, o de un santo al que usted tenga una devoción especial, o un santo que a usted le gustaría que fuera mentor de su bebe. Usted puede buscar nombres en www.catholic.org: hay una lista de santos en orden alfabética.  Usted puede leer la historia del santo, de que es patrón ese santo, el día de fiesta del santo, etc.
 
Padrinos.
Se requiere que los padrinos asistan a la clase Bautismal, y hagan enviar una carta desde su parroquia dictando que son Católicos practicantes y que tienen permiso para ser padrinos. Se requiere un padrino Católico y puede ser masculino o femenino: por lo menos de 16 años y que sea un Católico practicante y plenamente iniciado; que haya recibido los siguientes sacramentos: Bautizo, Primera Eucaristía, Reconciliación y Confirmación y si casado, que haya sido casado en la Iglesia Católica o si tuvo su matrimonio bendecido en una fecha posterior. Por la Ley Canónica 873
 
Si usted elige 2 padrinos uno tendrá que ser masculino y otro femenino.
Idealmente que los 2 sean Católicos.  Sin embargo, uno puede ser no-Católico. Deberán ser bautizados en la fe Cristiana, en la forma Trinitaria (Padre, Hijo, y Espíritu Santo con agua) Se requiere prueba del Bautizo  (copia del certificado de Bautizo).  Serán indicados como Testigos Cristianos y no como Padrinos en la forma Bautismal.
Padrinos Testigos Cristianos tendrán que asistir a la clase de Bautizo Católico.
            Un Padre del bebe no podrá ser su padrino de bautizo.
Si los Padrinos no pueden estar presentes en la ceremonia, por favor consideren la opción de un apoderado. Fuertemente disuadimos que abuelos sean los padrinos del bebe.
Padrinos necesitan atender la clase bautismal o demostrar documentación  de que atendieron la clase bautismal, en orden para poder ser padrinos.
            Padrinos necesitan completar la forma de Registro para Padrinos.

Las Carta(s) de los Padrinos necesitan ser enviadas por fax de iglesia a iglesia, o puede ser enviada por correo de iglesia a iglesia y tendrá que tener el sello de la iglesia en el sobre.

Se pasara a reservar la fecha del Bautizo una vez completada las clases de preparación Bautismal, tanto de los padres como los padrinos,  y recibido las formas de comprobante bautismal,  certificado de nacimiento, certificado bautismal / carta de padrinos así como la forma de registro de padrino.
Si la clase bautismal fue tomada en otra iglesia, necesitamos verificación de la fecha y cuando fue tomada. Deberá ser dentro de los últimos 5 años. Necesitamos copia sellada mandada por fax de la iglesia en donde se tomaron las clases.
Trataremos de acomodarlos de la mejor manera posible. Sin embargo nuestra iglesia es muy grande y tenemos como 200 bautizos al año. La mayoría de nuestros parroquianos son de fuera de San Antonio y tienen sus familiares fuera del estado o país.  Trataremos de acomodarlos de la mejor manera.
 
Toda la papelería deberá de ser recibida en la oficina.  Sin Excepciones.
 
Bautizos son reservados únicamente a través de nuestra oficina y de la Coordinadora Sacramental: Veronica Santillan (210) 497-4200 ext. 305
 
 
La mayoría de las reservaciones para Bautizo son privadas y oficiadas por los Diáconos de la Parroquia.
 
Bautizos son normalmente reservados en Sábados, pero Bodas y Eventos Especiales tienen prioridad.
