Cancer Support Group: Next meeting May 28. 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. Faith Formation Center, 2
nd floor conference room.
Impressions: A very busy time for the group. Join us so we can serve each other and the entire parish better - that’s what this group is for. As ‘self-help’ goes, this group, by all accounts, is doing okay. What we lack are the thousands of you, touched by cancer, who can share your experiences, ‘journeys’ if you will, with each other. In a nutshell, that’s how self-help is working here at Holy Trinity. Simply put, more people sharing = more helping one another.
This is one way that we promised to support you. We know that being at a meeting to talk about such personal experiences as how we are touched by cancer, isn’t for everyone or even most of you. So bare with us for a minute or two and just think about what happened in your life…(continue after a minute or two) Maybe share a little with someone who will understand, someone who experienced similar things. Remember that when you talk about it, the person listening will have intellectual, spiritual and emotional reactions based on their experiences. What may happen, be ready for it, is that you will become the person who needs to listen for a while. It will change you and him/her. The mutual listening and sharing brings you closer on a very personal, spiritual and emotional level. Understanding another helps you. So you don’t need to come to a meeting to get that. Just share with someone.
We all get more that we give - somehow in God’s wisdom He created us that way. All we need to do is trust the process of giving a little of ourselves. In the Bible Jesus showed us how to do that. You can see it every time you look at the Cross behind the altar. Its going in with that faith/knowledge that makes it easy to lay yourself open to help from another. When you get it, see it, accept it you will also be there for others. Remember the movie that showed us how to ‘pay it forward’? Children have a way of showing us the way. Let’s leave it at that for now. Let’s pray for each other. Check out the Parish Prayer List - lots of illnesses, cancers and more, injuries and sorrows. Work a miracle - Can we say that? - with your prayers. “A People who believe and belong --The Kingdom of God is where you are.”
