Review of Goals and Objectives for Implementation: With several new committee members present, the goals and objectives for implementation were reviewed as follows:
GOAL 1: To help the faithful participate more fully, actively and consciously in the Mass.
- Provide resources and tools to enhance parishioner’s understanding of their role in the Mass.
- Train liturgical ministers to allow them to lead the newly translated texts well.
- Make connections, in preaching, between newly translated texts and their scriptural roots.
- Create opportunities for all parishioners to reflect on their roles as leaders of, and participants in, the Mass.
GOAL 2: To provide parish leaders with the appropriate concrete resources to plan and implement a parish-wide program of liturgical formation and catechesis on the newly translated Mass.
- Identify the roles and responsibilities of key leaders for the parish implementation.
- Create a parish Action Plan.
- Set a schedule for implementing the parish Action Plan.
- Communicate with the parish about the Action Plan and about the changes themselves.
- Make print, audio, video and online resources available to leaders and parishioners.
- Train parish-level trainers.
· Report from Faith Formation: Kristin and Eric reported on the Archdiocesan Midwinter Gathering discussion on implementation of the new translation in Faith Formation programs. The recommended text is What’s New About the Mass? by Maureen A. Kelly from Liturgy Training Publications. This booklet is based, in part, on the adult text selected for use in our parish entitled Understanding the Revised Mass Texts, Second Edition by Paul Turner. It is appropriate for use with youth in grades 3-7. The tentative Faith Formation translation implementation includes six 30-minute class sessions starting on Sept 26, 2011 with completion before the implementation date of the 1st Sunday of Advent (November 27, 2011). A catechist inservice is tentatively scheduled for mid-September and will include training on incorporating this text into the curriculum. The committee will focus on aligning a parent education component with the faith formation curriculum.
· Report from Music Ministry: Shelia Morse reported on the activities of Music Ministry in selecting new Mass settings based on the new translation. A Mass setting is the parts of the Mass that are sung by the congregation such as the Gloria, Holy, Memorial Acclamation, etc. The hymns and songs used in liturgy are not changing. Approximately 160 Mass settings have been written or revised to be in compliance with the wording from the new translation. The goal of Music Ministry is select a Mass setting that is easy to learn and sing that can be used in Ordinary Time and then have another Mass setting for special feasts and seasons. Music Ministers met on April 2, 2011 to review settings and tentatively selected four settings that meet this goal. Darnell Waun and Shelia Morse will be attending the National Association of Pastoral Musicians conference in July to hear the latest recommendations and will bring this information back to Holy Trinity musicians to develop a final decision. The parish action plan will include teaching the selected setting to the congregation.
