TRANSLATION IMPLEMENTATION COMMITTEE February 22. 2011
· Present:Darnell Waun, Shelia Morse, Mike Cleary, Bernie and Carolyn Denisio, Sherry Drury, and JJ Hansbrough
· Excused:Phil and Linda Clark
· Opening Prayer:The meeting began at 7:00 PM. Darnell Waun led the Committee in an opening prayer.
· Agenda:The following agenda items were discussed: Committee Membership; Review of the Role of the Committee; Roman Missal, 3rd Edition Translation Highlights; Goals and Objectives for Implementation; and Implementation Road Map.
· Committee Membership: Monsignor Mike asked Darnell Waun to facilitate this committee last Fall and Darnell developed the membership based on representation from various ministries in the parish including Adult Education, Parish Staff, Clergy Representative, Music Ministry, Youth Ministry and Knights of Columbus. The committee unanimously agreed that a Faith Formation representative should be a permanent member of the committee.
· Review of the Role of the Committee: The committee’s role is to develop and implement an Action Plan that meets the specific needs of the Holy Trinity Faith Community for an implementation date of the 1st Sunday of Advent, November 27, 2011. This date is universal for the entire English-speaking Roman Catholic Church. The translation itself has been approved by the Holy See in Rome and is not a negotiable item.
· Roman Missal, 3rd Edition Translation Highlights: The Eucharistic Liturgy is the center of the Catholic Church’s life. The new translation does not change the Mass, just some of the words used in the expression of the liturgy by the presider and the congregation. The goal of the translation is to make the experience of the Liturgy UNDERSTANDABLE, DIGNIFIED, BEAUTIFUL, and DOCTRINALLY PRECISE. The new text is filled with theological meaning drawing on the depths of Scripture and the Church’s rich tradition. It gives a renewed appreciation of the close relationship between Scripture and the Liturgy. Sherry Drury will provide an electronic version of the presentation slides from the Deanery-wide training conducted at St. Peter, Prince of the Apostles Church on February 26, 2011 to committee members. Extensive discussion of this topic can be found at www.usccb.org/romanmissal.
